Complaint Box: Local Hypocrites

This cranky article in the NY Times about shopping locally (3/25) made us think of Bowne and the question of supporting shops for reasons other than convenience. Bowne was more than a store, but many neighborhood residents thought of it as simply that, a beautiful place to browse now and then.

Marietta Ladies’, Men’s and Children’s Wear has been part of my neighborhood in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, for over half a century. Hand-lettered signs fill the display window (“Heavy sox, $1.50 a pair”)….
